Plain English summary: Use the app fairly, don't misuse it, pay your subscription if you have one. Mechanics are responsible for the quality of their own work — we're a software platform, not a repair shop. You can cancel anytime.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of My Car Companion ("Service"), operated by My Car Companion ("we," "our," or "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
By accessing or using My Car Companion, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years of age (16 in the EU) to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
You must create an account to access most features. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it updated.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
Each person may maintain only one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions (such as free-tier vehicle limits) is prohibited.
Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your chosen billing cycle). Payment is processed securely by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on each renewal date.
You may cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Manage Subscription in the app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until that date.
We do not provide refunds for partial subscription periods. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 30 days at paul@thecooconsultant.com.
We reserve the right to change subscription prices. We will give you at least 30 days' advance notice before any price change takes effect. Continued use after the price change constitutes your acceptance of the new price.
If a payment fails, we may retry the charge and/or downgrade your account to the free tier until payment is resolved.
The free tier allows you to add up to 2 vehicles and access basic maintenance tracking features. We reserve the right to modify free tier limitations at any time with notice. Existing free accounts will not be retroactively restricted without advance notice.

You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Service (vehicle records, maintenance logs, messages, reviews, etc.). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and use that content solely to provide and improve the Service.
Reviews submitted for mechanics must be honest, based on genuine first-hand experience, and comply with these Terms. We reserve the right to remove reviews that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be fraudulent, abusive, or in violation of these Terms.
You may not submit content that violates third-party intellectual property rights, contains personal information of others without consent, or is otherwise unlawful.
Mechanics who use the Service are independent professionals. My Car Companion is a software platform — we do not employ mechanics, certify their work, or guarantee the quality of automotive services. Any automotive service relationship is solely between the mechanic and their client.
Mechanics agree to provide accurate information about their qualifications, services, and pricing. Misrepresentation of credentials or services is grounds for account termination.
Mechanic accounts may be subject to verification review by our administrative team. We reserve the right to suspend or remove mechanic listings that do not meet our standards.
The Service, including its design, software, and content (excluding user-submitted content), is owned by My Car Companion and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on our software or design without our written permission.
Important: My Car Companion is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are a software platform, not a licensed automotive service provider. We do not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of any mechanic's work.
The Service is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that:
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, My Car Companion and its owners, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for violation of these Terms, suspected fraud, or any other reason we determine in our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first, and if unresolved, through binding arbitration or courts of competent jurisdiction.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by sending a notification via the app or email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
